New Parkinson’s Specialist
I am delighted to announce that we now have a Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist to cover the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire. Her name is Caroline Powell and she is a very experienced nurse but has not worked exclusively with people with Parkinson’s before. It will take her a few months to set up the service in Aylesbury and during this time she will be sitting in with me in my clinics and coming out on home visits. You will get the opportunity to meet her at the Care & Share network coffee morning in Chesham on 13 November.
Caroline will see people with Parkinson’s under the care of the Stoke Mandeville neurologists and Dr Hasan, the elderly care consultant. However, as she will be based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, she will be able to visit patients on the wards who are admitted from this area. It will be a great help to me, and also to the medical and nursing teams there, to have someone on the spot to give advice about how to improve the care for people with Parkinson’s in hospital.
This really is wonderful news as it ends the inequality that people with Parkinson’s have suffered for the last 18 years in Aylesbury Vale and means that we can offer a Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist service for the whole of the Buckshealthcare Trust.
