By Keith Howell
Most of us look at great works of art and think “I wish I could draw/paint like that”. Whilst that sentiment may be true, what isn’t true is that you can’t draw.
By following some methods and rules you will be amazed at what you can achieve after a very short time. Could you play a musical instrument or ride a bike when first presented with one?
Keith Howell is setting up a drawing group to be held on Monday afternoons from 2pm until 4pm, starting Monday 22 January 2018.
To start with, the sessions will be held at Keith’s home until we establish how much interest there is. That means the numbers will be limited to eight on a first come first served basis.
The group will cover a wide range of subjects: pets, flowers, people, fashion, water, portraits, trees and boats interspersed with more formal topics such as perspective, shading, surfaces and balance.
What you need to bring
- some A4 sheets of drawing paper
- a drawing board e.g. a 5mm thick piece of hardboard or plywood 14” x 9” or thereabouts
- an HB and a 3B pencil (or darker),
- a rule
- an eraser
- a pencil sharpener (one that captures the shavings)
- some coloured pencils
(please don’t bring felt tip pens/pencils or paints or liquids).
Bring a photograph of something you would like to draw so that the group can decide what subjects will be covered over the following weeks.
For the first week we will take a look at drawing cartoons.
