New Respite Care scheme

respite-care“If only I had someone to look after my husband on Monday mornings for two hours!”

A new Respite Care scheme was launched on 1 October 2016 to replace the one we have been running since November 2013.

The new scheme offers up to 20 applicants, who join within the year to 30 September 2017, twenty free hours of care each. Applicants must start using their allocated hours within three months of joining in order to stay in the Scheme, and must use their 20 free hours by 30 September 2018. Any unclaimed hours at that date will be lost.

Qualified and experienced carers from local agency Universal Care Ltd can provide:

  • companionship
  • personal care
  • administration of medication
  • housekeeping
  • shopping

Grateful thanks must go to Peter Charles, who is contributing 10% of the money raised by his amazing pilgrimage towards respite care.

Applications for the new scheme can be made online via the Branch website or application forms may be obtained from Tony Vaughan or Anita Browne – see our Respite Care page for details.

The 2013 Respite Care scheme, funded by generous legacies left to our Branch, was closed to new applicants on 30 September 2016. The Scheme has proved to be very successful; in fact, so successful that there is now only sufficient legacy money left to fund free care for the existing members up to 30 September 2017 when the Scheme will close. Any unclaimed hours at that date will be lost.
